Design Leadership on assigned brands
Creative leader on all packaging projects, print collateral, experiential events, and other printed projects as assigned.
Manage the hands-on design and people on design projects. Receives creative briefs and reviews for clarity prior to kick-offs.
Translate the strategic intent of briefs into design direction for the team.
Provide direction and pushes the team to consistently produce high-quality design work that delivers against client briefs and business needs.
Lead design across all aspects of the consumer experience including at shelf-shopping experience, unboxing experience, owning & how to use experience, and reorder/loyalty experience.
Provide direction, inspiration, feedback, and creative expertise to FTE Sr. Designer(s) and design contractor pool.
Own talent staffing decisions for their team. Can also do "hands-on" design work to contribute the the team's workload on projects.
May do design work as a way to show the team design direction or may contribute designs to presentations on projects.
Hands-on design could include colors, fonts, layout designs, or full scale mock ups.
Client relationship management
Partner with internal clients and present up to the VP level.
Primary point of contact for managing discussions around client creative feedback.
Maintain relationships with the studio leaders as a point-person on assigned brands for print & packaging design creative.
Assigned to brands for the long term and provides consistency in the client-agency relatinoship and creative workr.
Process and organizational
Managee the productivity of the designers on their brands and projects. This inlcudes managing designer work against schedule and budget expectations.
Contribute ideas and recommendations for ongoing organizational improvements (i.e. process and tools).
Collaboratee with project managers and account managers to ensure smooth, effecient workflow.
External focus on the industry
Maintain a connection to external creative industry.
Stay up to date on current trends in commercial creativity.
Maintain a presence in the industry by participating in conferences and award shows.
Keep a constant eye on emerging talent to bring into the agency (vendors, artists, production companies, individual designers, etc.).
Years and Type of Experience:
Minimum of 10 years experience in design with emphasis on packaging design for a variety of products.
Both agency and in-house experience is preferred.
Minimum of 5 years experience as a people manager of other designers with a track record of developing talent.
Packaging experience includes developing and designing graphics and product forms. Experience designing for the shopping experience and labels at the 10'-5'-2' levels, full line redesigns, and club/palette presentations.
Experiential design experience includes events, meetings, conferences, trade-shows and PR events.
Print experience goes beyond packaging to include in-store displays, point of purchase, etc.
Understanding of print production process including designing for a variety of packaging formats and substrates.
Experience with multi-channel campaigns (print + digital + content + experiential)
Leading and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams.
Deep experience and knowledge in developing brand standards and identity systems
Rebranding and brand systems for mature, high-awareness brands and new brands/launches.
Work in the consumer packaged goods categories required.
Designing for various retail environments including club stores, national retailers, and e-commerce.
Creative operations experience in a medium to large organization
International experience a plus
Non-commercial artisitc work is a plus. (We'd love to see examples of your other passions.)

Graphic design in a variety of printed projects (2D and 3D)
A human-centered approach to design philosophy
An expert eye for color and typography
Expert knowledge of Adobe CS (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop)

Tapped in to design trends, design movements and the design community
